3 Hidden Travel Spots in Thailand

Do you enjoy traveling to places that most people don't know about?

Thailand is full of hidden destinations. While it's true, you can get nearly anywhere by bus, there are plenty of spots that aren't even written about in large travel guides simply because they're not accessible by bus.

Most travelers and tourists who visit Thailand visit the islands, Bangkok, and Chiang Mai. Those are the "Big 3". For someone who is just on vacation or has limited time to see the country these are easy to access and are very tourist friendly.

For anyone who has a month or more in Thailand, there are some places off the typical travel path that make you feel good by being so close to nature.

If you're ready for an adventure and want to experience Thailand in all of it's glory, be a teacher.
You will get paid to live and work in one of the most beautiful countries in the world, and have the opportunity to travel on days off.

If you have a college degree, you can get paid to live and teach in Thailand

All that's needed is a university degree and a quick TEFL course. To find out how to get started visit our website, message us on Facebook or email ploy.t4t@gmail.com

As a teacher in Thailand, you'll have 12 months or longer to travel and see parts of Thailand that go unseen by most visitors. You can see a lot in that time.

We Love Teaching Here

The islands are beautiful, but for the authentic adventure you need to head inland!

Only one of the places below is reachable by bus. The other two require a car to get to, so plan a trip with your Thai friends or rent a car with another teacher.

Khao Yai National Park

Why? It's delightful to hike and be among wild animals and nature.
Accessibility: Low. Technically, you can go by motorbike, since you can rent your camping equipment on-site, but a car would be ideal. You cannot go by bus, but you could probably charter a minibus or taxi with enough people.

This is a national park with a fee to camp for the weekend. In 2016, the cost was 400 Baht per foreigner. A tent, sleeping bag, tarp, mat and pillow all together cost about the same. So, for around 800 Baht you can camp with everything provided. If you've never setup a tent, bring extra beer, so you can ask your campground neighbors for a little help.

What it has to offer
Elephants if you're lucky, invisible elephants if you're unlucky. This is a national park, so the animals roam freely. There isn't a guaranteed opportunity to see elephants. There are viewing platforms and guides though.

Macaques. You'll see them hanging out by the bridge near the coffee shop in the middle of the park and near the main food court.

Large lizards roam the area.

Deer, deer ALL OVER the place! They come and graze in the middle of the campground area. They'll eat an apple out of your hand if you're brave enough to walk up to them. They're often caught sneaking into people's tents to find tasty snacks.

Waterfalls are all over the park, there is plenty of hiking, and the viewpoints on mountain tops are incredible.

There's a food court and coffee shop on site as well as a little restaurant in the middle of the park.

Phimai Historical Park

Why? They're the 'other end' of the trade route that was between this part of the country and the ruins in Siem Reap, Cambodia. These ancient ruins are massive and will give you a sense of awe when you walk the grounds.
Accessibility: High. You can get here by bus. You might need to first take a bus to Korat (Nakon Ratchasima) and then another bus to Phimai Historical Park.

What is has to offer
The town itself is on the smaller side. There are some fun little shops and restaurants to eat at. There's also a Starbucks in the center of town. Just Kidding! ;-) The bus will drop you off near the park. You'll need to either watch your location on Google maps or show the driver on your map where you want to get off the bus. This is a stop along the route, not the final destination of the bus.

The historical park costs a small fee to enter. The cost was likely around 100 Baht per person, maybe less. On the grounds you'll find a small museum with artifacts on display.

Walking the grounds is stunning, you'll need at least an hour to walk around and take in the area. Take plenty of photos. There are some great shots!

You'll be able to get on a bus to return home at a small bus station in town. It's not too far from the historical park. It's walk-able and no taxi is needed.

Sangklaburi

Why? This area is not well traveled and you're going to experience Thailand like never before.
Accessibility: Low. You might be able to get here by minibus, but I'm not sure. Driving here from Bangkok by car takes about 5 hours. A motorcycle would be a magical ride, but motorbike might be rough.

What is has to offer

The scenery on the drive alone is enough to head this direction. There are shimmering lakes, mountain peaks that cut through the mist, winding roads that tuck against the mountainside -a small cave housing a temple. It's really neat.

There are incredible waterfalls along the way and places to stop and eat. Hellfire Pass is a must see on this route.

The destination is the small town that calls the Mon bridge home, near the border of Myanmar.

  7. When I was doing my post graduation from a famous university in India, some of my classmates were from Thailand, so I came to know a lot about their country. We became friends, so we remained in touch after earning the degree, but we remained in touch through the social media sites. I received wedding invitation from one of my friends, so I reached there a few days before, because I wanted to see the famous Loy Krathong festival, and I still cherish those moments.
